Jaggery is an unrefined sugar produced from sugarcane. It is a non-centrifugal sugar because it is not spun during processing (as is done while making white or refined sugar) and the nutritious molasses remain within the jaggery. That is why it is often referred to as a “super-food sweetener.”

A small number of farmers from Jaunpur (Uttar Pradesh) grow indigenous varieties of sugarcane by traditional methods, without using chemical fertilisers and pesticides. Familes of these farmers then use this sugarcane to prepare artisanal cottage-scale, hand-made adulteration-free jaggery, by following age-old practices. Only a small quantity of jaggery is made in this way and we are happy that these farmers have chosen Krishija to offer their heirloom product.
